Intellectual Wellness
SMART Goals
Here’s an excellent video to start us out. It's from Michael Ebinger, the director of WSU’s University Center for Innovation, talking about intellectual wellness: https://youtu.be/K5ulPdEejjw
Now, to increase your Intellectual Wellness and achieve intellectual growth, establish S.M.A.R.T. goals! These are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timebound.
Example: I will read this 400-page book this month, reading 100 pages a week.
S - Specific - Your goal is clearly defined and states exactly what you are going to achieve.
M - Measurable - Your goal states success criteria, so you can track progress and know when your goal is met.
A - Achievable - Your goal challenges you, but is also something realistic.
R - Relevant - Your goal is connected to what is valuable and important to you.
T - Timeline - Your goal includes a date you will have achieved it by.
Be deliberate with your SMART Goals, and make sure to self-assess and reflect on the process!

Time Management
According to Erich C. Dierdorff with the Harvard Business Review, there are three skills needed that separate time management failure from success: Awareness, Arrangement, and Adaptation.
Awareness: thinking realistically about your time by understanding it is a limited resource.
Arrangement: designing and organizing your goals, plans, schedules, and tasks to effectively use time.
Adaptation: monitoring your use of time while performing activities, including adjusting to interruptions or changing priorities.
According to studies, most people struggle the most with awareness and adaptation skills. If you work on these three skills, you can develop your skills in time management, saving you time and stress and giving you more time to pursue other opportunities.
Awareness Tips:
- Figure out when you're most productive during the day
- Record how long you’ve spent on tasks with clear deadlines, rather than how much time you have left.
- After finishing a project, evaluate how long you thought it would take & how long it took.
Arrangement Tips:
- Prioritize activities and obligations, don't just list them!
- Use a calendar app & record due dates for tasks & appointments (immediately when they are planned)
- Make calendar appointments with yourself to ensure uninterrupted time for your priority projects
Adaption Tips:
- When tasks seem overwhelming, put forth maximum effort for 15-30 min intervals to avoid procrastination
- Experiment with time-tracker or checklist apps
- Reduce time wasters. Create do-not-disturb time slots & block social media sites during critical work time
